Honoring the ‘front line’ – “Shining Thru”

Dear Readers ,
This week there is something to listen to rather than to read . My dear friend Alison Gatwood who spent decades teaching music to thousands of students in school (as well as private piano lessons – it was thru taking private piano lessons with her that we met and became friends ) composed a song called “Shining Through” 25 years ago to celebrate my husband Joe and my 25 th wedding anniversary . After hearing of his work as Health Officer & EMS Medical Director during this pandemic she re-worked that song to honor him and thank him and other of our family members -and all those on the ‘front lines’- for their service and sacrifice.

Coping Through Hard Times

This week I am posting this excellent source of info and inspiration from my dear friend and colleague from Maine , Kathy Amsden . Kathy is a licensed social worker and certified psychodramatist as well as a gifted singer / songwriter . She works in the field of home hospice and palliative care . If you are interested in obtaining one of a remaining handful of CDs of her album “Awakening”, contact me by email and I will see what I can do 😊Blessings of health , peace , serenity and love to all , Linda

The Healing Power of Arts

Recent research regarding the healing power of the arts reveals how deeply the arts can affect us in a positive way.

My personal background includes writing “poetry” at age 8 and beyond to express what was unsafe and reveal what was otherwise repressed; my years in dance and theatre provided outlets for my body and voice to express what otherwise could not be said; hours at the piano and coloring “in the lines” and painting “by number” provided safe “containers” for feelings that were unprocessed.  Those who know me have often heard me say, “The arts and God’s grace saved me”.

The Healing Power of Art

What if you were able to reduce the stress in your everyday life just by looking? Or what about improving one’s mood? How would you do that?

The answer may be Art!

In my journey as an artist, I believe that Art and Healing are connected. Through my gift of art, I have found a way to convey this belief. For me, “looking at nature” is an amazing way to de-stress, and change one’s mood. It’s a way of taking the natural environment and using it to transcend the hustle, and bustle. Our busy lives don’t often allow us time to get away, but I find that “looking at a beautiful piece of Art”  can produce these results, too.
