Creating a Wellness Lifestyle (adapted from Life by design)

  1. Physical wellness involves nurturing the body.  It includes:
    • exercise
    • proper nutrition
    • managing stress
    • rest and sleep
    • awareness and respect for the environment

  1. Mental wellness involves an ability to:
    • acquire knowledge
    • grow intellectually
    • learn new skills
    • assert oneself
    • listen
    • manage time
    • acknowledging our strengths and our “growing edges ”
  2. Emotional wellness involves an ability to:
    • love
    • forgive ourselves and others
    • resolve conflicts
    • build relationships
    • accurately label feelings
    • process feelings appropriately – neither “imploding” nor “exploding”
  3. Spiritual wellness includes experiences of:
    • creativity
    • joy
    • hope
    • peace
    • connectedness – to self, others and something larger than one’s self (e.g. nature, the Divine, etc.)
    • a sense of purpose
    • optimism and positive self talk
